The Labour Minister Nayef Stetieh said that the Employment in Jordan 2030 (EJ2030) project is intended to support the efforts of the government of Jordan realigning the employment policies in the Kingdom towards social and economic development.
Stetieh indicated, in the presence of the Ministry of Planning, Kordula Mehlhart, Head of German Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Jordan, Elisabeth Girrbach, Director of (GIZ) Jordan Office, and representatives from the Jordan Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the General Federation of Jordan Trade Unions, that the EJ2030 will also inform policies and data analysis, enabling the ministry to realign labour market policies towards fast-growing sectors and related professional businesses.
He asserted that the EJ2030 project will help address the adverse impact of the coronavirus pandemic on employment, especially in light of an already high unemployment among young people and women as a result of the repercussions of the pandemic.
The Minister appreciated the long-standing support extended by Germany, which yielded successful results to date in enhancing employment opportunities.
Kordula Mehlhart, Head of German Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Jordan, welcomed the government’s efforts enhancing the economic development and job generation as part of its economic agenda priorities for the period 2021-2023.
She commended the active role of the Ministry of Labour and the progress made through the bilateral cooperation in the area of employment enhancement. She asserted that the new project will contribute to supporting such efforts through capacity building and the introduction of evidence-based policies that advance the labour market in the medium and long term.
The EJ2030 project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with a contribution of 9 million euros, and it will be implemented until May 2024 through the (GIZ).
